During the 2025 Nationwide Multi-Hazard Drill on Friday, President Dina Boluarte called on Peruvians to be prepared to face earthquakes and to participate in preparedness exercises seriously and responsibly.

"Year after year, in the month of May, the Multi-Hazard Drill is held to continue advancing in the sense of responsibility  of every citizen, every family, every neighborhood, every organization, every district, province, and region has. All of Peru must be prepared to face a major earthquake at any moment," Mrs. Boluarte stated.

The top official reminded citizens that Peru is located in a highly seismic zone, which is why drills must be taken seriously and responsibly.

The president said that every family should have an emergency backpack at home, along with food, flashlights, and a radio, and should identify the safe places to stay during an earthquake, away from windows.

"Once the seismic movement is over, we move to the designated safe zones, and evacuate calmly to avoid accidents. That is what we must do nationwide because, I repeat, Peru is located in a region where it is indicated that a major earthquake will occur at some point," she emphasized.

The top official urged people living in coastal areas to stay alert for a potential tsunami and, if one occurs, to follow authorities' instructions and evacuate to higher ground.
