The
on Wednesday reported that Peruvian exports reached US$6.922 billion in January 2025, growing by 30.7% compared to the same month in 2024, thanks to the combined increase in prices and shipped volumes.
Mining —the sector that contributes the most to the South American country's exports (63% of the total)— saw a 38.5% increase in export value in January, with notable growth in copper sales (+47.5%) and gold (+42.1%).
The prices of both minerals were 6.2% and 30% higher, respectively, compared to a year ago.
Similarly, agro-exports grew by 23.7% in the first month of this year, reaching US$1.354 billion.
This was driven by higher sales of cacao, its derivatives (+189.8%), and fruits (+25.1%), including grapes (+59%), mangoes (+53.3%), and limes (+30.1%). The increase in cacao exports from Peru was due to a higher price (+144%).
In the fishing sector, exports totaled US$315 million, with significant increases in fishmeal sales (+72%). Additionally, sales of algae (+143%) and scallops (+111%) rose due to higher shipped volumes. Flying fish roe (+20%) and prawns (+8.8%) grew due to higher prices.
Meanwhile, textile and garment exports grew by 10%, reaching US$138 million, driven by higher sales of fabrics (+38%), yarns (+30.1%), fibers (+3.6%), and clothing (+6.7%).
In addition, metallurgy exports increased by 23.2% due to higher sales of copper products (wires, sheets, strips) and silver.
In January 2025, Peruvian products reached 125 markets. The main destination was China, accounting for 34% of total exports, mainly minerals such as copper, iron, and gold.
The United States followed (13%), with products like blueberries, grapes, and clothing, while the European Union (11%) imported copper, avocados, coffee, cacao beans, and grapes.
After reaching a record of 9,752 exporters in 2024, the number of exporters continued to grow in January 2025, reaching 3,686 —7.4% more than in the same month of 2024— with a significant increase in the mining sector (+44%).
