Peru and China reinforced ties by reactivating, after nine years, the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic and Technical Cooperation, within the framework of the official visit of Peruvian Foreign Affairs Minister Javier Gonzalez-Olaechea to the Asian Giant.

On the Chinese side, it was headed by the Deputy Director General for the Latin America and Caribbean Department at the Ministry of Commerce, Xia Diya.

During the meeting, issues of common interest were discussed, including trade facilitation and Chinese cooperation in science and technology, education, health, investment, among others.

Also discussed was Peru's interest in ensuring the entry of Peruvian products into the Chinese market.

Likewise, a general assessment of the bilateral economic relationship was conducted and APEC Leaders Meeting's economic and commercial results were prepared.

As is known, Peru will host the APEC Leaders' Week in November 2024.

The Joint Intergovernmental Commission is part of the bilateral mechanisms between Peru and China within the framework of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. It serves as a platform to review the economic agenda between both countries.

China has positioned itself as Peru's main trading partner and the leading Asian country in Foreign Direct Investment into the South American country; therefore, the reactivation of this Joint Intergovernmental Commission, which had not met since 2015, strengthens the bilateral relationship.
