held a bilateral meeting in Seoul on Sunday and signed the Cooperation Agreement on Climate Change between the Republic of Korea and the Republic of Peru.
This agreement establishes a solid framework for comprehensive cooperation between the two countries in the fight against climate change.
Its objective is to enhance both nations' capacities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to climate impacts, supporting the transition towards sustainable, low-carbon, and resilient economies.
Based on the agreement, both countries commit to improving substantive cooperation on climate change, including accelerating the transition to a low-carbon economy in the energy, industry, transportation, and agriculture sectors, among others, as well as on exchanging climate policies and technologies, plus organizing capacity development activities.
During the meeting held at the

the two dignitaries underscored that bilateral relations are going through an excellent moment, characterized by fluid high-level political-diplomatic dialogue.
In that regard, they recalled the meeting between Presidents Dina Boluarte and Yoon Suk-yeol in November 2023, within the framework of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum Leaders' Summit in San Francisco, United States, and agreed on deepening measures, such as the holding of the VII Meeting of the Peru-Korea Mixed Commission for Economic, Scientific, and Technical Cooperation to be held in Lima next August.
Minister Gonzalez-Olaechea delivered to his counterpart President Boluarte's invitation addressed for the South Korean President to attend the APEC Peru 2024 Leaders' Summit, to take place in Lima, as well as to make an official visit to Peru.
Similarly, he thanked South Korea for the recent donation of 15 vehicles that will be used in protocol services to the leaders of the 21 member economies.
During the gathering, they highlighted the Air Services Agreement between Peru and the Republic of Korea, which was signed in Seoul in April 2023. Within the framework of internal enhancement, it will soon be submitted for approval of Peruvian Congress.
Both authorities valued the recent strategic alliances established in the defense sector, with the construction of a modern shipyard and industrial production of ships by Peru's Navy Industrial Services (SIMA) and South Korea's Hyundai Heavy Industries, as well as the military industrial co-production and transfer of technology for armed vehicles supported by Hyundai Rotem, among other common coordination spaces.
Moreover, Foreign Affairs Minister Gonzalez-Olaechea congratulated the South Korean Government for having assumed the rotating presidency of the United Nations Security Council this June, agreeing on the importance of addressing the issue of cybersecurity for the first time in said main UN body.
Within this framework, he explained in detail the Peruvian proposal to reform the veto by the aforementioned Council (UNM3 Initiative), which received support from his South Korean counterpart.
Gonzalez-Olaechea's trip marks the first visit by a Peruvian Foreign Affairs minister to the Republic of Korea after a period of 20 years.
In 2023, both countries celebrated 60 years of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
