The European Union delivered its Electoral Monitoring Mission Report to Peruvian electoral organizations, such as the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE), the National Registry of Identification and Civil Status (RENIEC), and the National Elections Board (JNE).

The mission's main objective was to evaluate progress in the implementation of the 37 recommendations issued by both the Electoral Observation Mission (EU EOM) for the 2020 legislative elections and the electoral experts mission that accompanied the 2021 general elections.

Thus, the report underlined the importance of continuing to support reforms in line with transparency, political participation, and credible elections; and that the independence, integrity, and impartiality of the electoral bodies be preserved.

The mission was headed by European Parliament Member Leopoldo Lopez Gil, who was Chief Observer of the EU Peru 2020 EOM.

Previously, he met with Peruvian representatives, including members of the Government, Congress, the JNE, ONPE, and RENIEC, as well as representatives of political parties, civil society, and international cooperation organizations.

This event took place in the Peruvian capital, Lima, on Monday.
