The State-owned hydrocarbons company, Petroperu, announced that the world's finest alpaca fiber is produced using the natural gas it distributes in Arequipa region, contributing to the sustainability of the Peruvian textile industry.

Petroperu noted that Inca Tops —a leader in the production of alpaca yarns and garments— has fully connected all its factories to the State company's natural gas distribution system in Arequipa.

This transition has significantly reduced Inca Tops' carbon footprint, consolidating its position as one of the alpaca fiber producers with the lowest environmental impact worldwide.

Part of Grupo Inca (Inka Group) since 1965, Inca Tops is committed to innovation and sustainability, measuring and reducing its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions through the Huella de Carbono Peru (Peru Carbon Footprint) platform.

The recent connection to natural gas optimizes energy efficiency and promotes cleaner combustion in its production processes.

Thus, Petroperu reaffirms its commitment to the Peruvian southwest's sustainable development, bringing the benefits of natural gas to the Arequipa-based industry, while fostering environmentally responsible practices, economic growth, and local employment.

Special Assignment

By mandate of the Ministry of Energy and Mines, Petroperu efficiently and responsibly manages the public natural gas service in Peru’s southwest, benefiting thousands of families in Arequipa, Moquegua, Ilo, and Tacna regions.

Through the Specific Agreement for New Investments, the company can also connect industrial and commercial clients with consumption above 300 m³/month.
