Peru's economic leader, Dina Boluarte, on Friday emphasized the importance of bolstering economic cooperation among members that make up the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum.

This message was issued made during the APEC leaders' meeting held at Lima Convention Center's Lima Room in San Borja district.

"It is crucial to strengthen economic cooperation among APEC economies, and we have worked throughout this year during our hosting toward that goal. This has been achieved through a cross-cutting agenda that addresses topics of regional interest, emphasizing the importance of more consistently integrating sustainability and inclusion criteria," she stated.

Similarly, Mrs. Boluarte clarified that Peru's objective during its APEC hosting was to level the playing field by providing all member economies with the necessary tools to facilitate their inclusion in social, financial, and commercial spaces, thereby driving their growth.

"We firmly believe that growth starts with inclusion, and that it (inclusion) is achieved through empowering citizens, who are the driving force behind our economies," she emphasized.

Peru's economic leader highlighted that the three priorities set for 2024 are essential to achieving APEC's goals, enhancing the effectiveness of economic cooperation, as well as to advancing towards strong, balanced, sustainable, and inclusive growth.

"In that spirit, under the motto 'Empower, Include, Grow,' we have aimed to highlight the importance of equipping our populations with tools that can facilitate access to better opportunities, ensuring prospects for sustainable growth," she stated.

Mrs. Boluarte also noted that the thematic proposals and the instruments agreed upon during Peru's hosting "are proof of that," emphasizing the roadmap to promote the transition to economic formality.

"Fortunately, within APEC, we have developed a significant strategy to craft concrete solutions for specific challenges. With that foundation, we believe our forum can today contribute to strengthening multilateral cooperation, especially in a context where the various challenges we face increase uncertainty for the immediate future," she added.

Peru is hosting APEC for the third time after the 2008 and 2016 editions.
