The Fourth Office of the Lava Jato Special Team, led by Provincial Prosecutor Diana Liz Canchihuaman, secured an early termination sentence against Juan de Dios Zorrilla in the Arbitrators case, linked to the Brazilian company Odebrecht.
The defendant was sentenced to four years in prison, as well as a 60-day fine and the payment of S/380,000 (US$108,015) in civil reparations to the Peruvian State.
This achievement marks the eleventh conviction obtained by the Lava Jato Special Team, coordinated by Senior Prosecutor Rafael Vela.
Moreover, it adds to the 61 convictions obtained through the effective cooperation process.
According to the Prosecutor's Office, lawyers who served as arbitrators allegedly received illicit payments to rule in favor of the Brazilian construction company in various arbitration proceedings.
The investigations involve five road projects, including the Southern Interoceanic Highway (IIRSA Sur), sections 2 and 3; the Northern Interoceanic Highway (IIRSA Norte); the Empalme PE-5N Cuñumbuque–Zapatero–San Jose de Sisa Road; and the Callejon de Huaylas–Chacas–San Luis Road.
