reported that a total of 1,016,618 international tourists had visited Peru between January and April 2024. The figure reveals a 53.4% increase compared to the four-month period last year.
This result also reflects the good performance that the sector has been experiencing so far in 2024, since it maintains the growth path.
At the same time, it places Peru in front of the main objective for this year: reaching pre-pandemic figures.
According to information from the
National Superintendence of Migrations,
Chile was the main source of tourists to Peru during the first four months of 2024, registering 259,300 visitors (+43.8% compared to 2023).
The list continues with the United States (174,609; +41.7%), Ecuador (88,062; +29.6%), Bolivia (59,870; +182.7%), Brazil (49,952; +106.9%), and Colombia (49,790; +25.7%). These 6 countries alone explain 67.1% of total international arrivals in Peru.
At the regional level, South America accounted for 54.2% of all foreign tourists who arrived in Peru during the first four months of this year, totaling 551,000.
For its part, North America represented 22.3% (227,000); followed by Europe, 16.1% (163,000); Asia 4.1%; and Central America 2.3%.
The most dynamic markets were
APEC members,
such as Hong Kong (+414%), Taiwan (+284%), Malaysia (+229%), Singapore (+222%), Japan (202%), and China (+168%), in addition to other countries such as Greece (+198%), Trinidad and Tobago (+198%), Bolivia (+183%), Poland (+146%), and Denmark (+137%).
A total of 621,000 tourists arrived in our country through Jorge Chavez International Airport (61.1%) in Lima.
Border control posts
On the other hand, the Santa Rosa de Tacna Border Control Post registered the entry of 204,000 tourists.
In turn, the Binational Border Service Center (CEBAF) in Tumbes received 72,000 tourists (7.1%).
Lastly, the Desaguadero/CEBAF Puno Border Control Post received 56,000 (5.5%).
