Within the framework of the 2025 Global Infrastructure Cooperation Conference, held in Seoul, Transportation and Communications Minister Cesar Sandoval highlighted that the strategic partnership between Peru and the Republic of Korea opens up new opportunities to boost large-scale projects for the population's benefit.

The government official underlined that Peru is promoting a portfolio of nationwide railway projects that will connect and bring communities together, with the interest and experience of South Korean entrepreneurs.

Likewise, the high-ranking official stressed the importance of the modernization and expansion of airports, where South Korean technology and expertise represent a decisive contribution.

"Peru reiterates its firm willingness to continue strengthening ties with South Korea, with particular emphasis on sustainable infrastructure projects that generate a positive impact and real benefits for our entire population," he stated.

Strategic sectors

Minister Sandoval recalled that cooperation between Peru and South Korea also covers strategic sectors such as digital transformation, defense, and technological innovation, which reinforces the comprehensive nature of the bilateral relationship.

A concrete example of this cooperation is the South Korea–Peru Center for Digital Government, created in 2021 and in effect until 2026.

It seeks to promote the exchange of knowledge on digital transformation, institutional strengthening, and modern public administration, with technological support.

Another key area is cooperation in defense.

Minister Sandoval recalled that, during last year's Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit held in Peru, Peruvian Armed Forces companies and South Korean firms signed several agreements.

These include the manufacture of aircraft parts, the establishment of a military and special vehicles assembly plant, and the construction of naval vessels for the Peruvian Navy.

The Peruvian government official will remain in South Korea until Friday.

He will hold meetings with the Korea Airports Corporation regarding Chinchero International Airport (Cusco region), and with the Korea National Railway to discuss related projects.
