The Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MTC), through its General Directorate of Transportation Programs and Projects, and Lima Airport Partners (LAP) on Friday signed a record of agreements that ratifies the new start date for operations at the new Jorge Chavez International Airport in Lima.

As agreed, the modern airport terminal will begin operating no later than March 30, 2025.

Therefore, and as part of the process, a comprehensive review will be conducted at the end of February to verify compliance with all necessary measures to guarantee a safe and orderly transition.

Transportation and Communications Minister Raul Perez Reyes reported 15 days ago that the rescheduling of the start of operations was a decision coordinated with LAP and the aeronautical community, prioritizing safety, regularity, and operational efficiency, in line with international civil aviation safety standards.

This additional period will allow for comprehensive operational testing to assess the proper functioning of the terminal, identify areas for improvement, and implement corrections before opening. It will also allow for continued training to familiarize concessionaire, airline, and specialized services staff with the new operational flow.

Currently, the technical teams of the MTC, LAP, and the airport community are working together to determine whether the new airport will be put into operation gradually or in a comprehensive manner.

The Government, in coordination with all stakeholders, reaffirms its commitment to ensuring a safe, efficient, and orderly transition to the new Jorge Chavez International Airport.
