Foreign Affairs Minister Elmer Schialer stated that Peru's foreign policy is aimed at consolidating the country's image as a reliable partner.

Similarly, the diplomat stressed that one of his administration's central priorities will be to promote the expansion of business and foreign investment abroad.

"In order to collaborate in closing social gaps, my administration will have as a central priority promoting abroad, with the participation of the public sector and competent private agents, the intensification of business with Peru and the expansion of foreign investment in this country," he indicated on Thursday.

Minister Schialer pointed out that, in the current international economic and commercial context, Peru has a foreign policy aimed at consolidating its image as a reliable partner and as an important player in areas related to energy security and global food security.

He said that joining the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) constitutes a firm government policy, which is why Peru will continue to decisively foster actions aimed at this objective. It will help promote institutional strengthening in this country, as well as ensure inclusive, sustainable, and resilient development, with better services for citizens.

In this context, the Cabinet member stated that Peru will continue to strengthen its political-diplomatic presence, as well as its economic-commercial involvement in the Asia-Pacific region, an area where the political-economic axis of the world has shifted in recent decades.

"We are pleased to see the results of our foreign policy towards the vast Asia-Pacific region. Our bilateral relations with key partners in the region, such as China, Japan, South Korea, India, and Southeast Asia, are expanding and deepening every day," he remarked.

Minister Schialer also said that he will continue to strengthen Peru's relations with neighboring countries and those in the region, as well as with the United States and Canada, with an emphasis on promoting investments in key sectors, such as infrastructure, energy, mining, and on cooperation to strengthen citizen security and the fight against transnational organized crime and other issues that concern us.

As is known, career diplomat
Elmer Schialer was sworn in as Minister of Foreign Affairs last Tuesday.
He replaces Javier Gonzalez-Olaechea in the post.
