The Commission for the Promotion of Peru for Export and Tourism (Promperu) currently participates in the Hyvolution Chile 2024 event, which takes place in Santiago from September 3 to 5, to promote foreign direct investment in Peru's renewable energy sector.

Hyvolution Chile is a space where private companies, guilds, associations, and government institutions meet to explore the purchase of products or services related to renewable energy, as well as investment in projects belonging to the aforementioned sector. The current is its second edition.

PromPeru's objective is to promote the valleys of Arequipa, Moquegua, and Tacna as geographical areas suitable for green hydrogen production due to their climatic conditions, as well as to highlight the comparative advantages that make Peru the ideal destination for FDI.

To this end, there is a stand where personalized information is provided on Peru's potential as a destination country for investment in renewable energy to executives of sector companies attending the event, in addition to publicizing the specialized services that the institution provides to facilitate FDI.

Green hydrogen production potential in Peru

Peru is positioned as an emerging leader in renewable energy, with a special focus on green hydrogen.

Our country offers optimal conditions for the production and export of this clean and sustainable energy.

According to the Peruvian Hydrogen Association (H2 Peru), Arequipa, Moquegua, and Tacna regions are identified as local and export market for green hydrogen.

These regions present ideal conditions for generating solar energy, since they host large areas with high solar radiation and favorable temperatures due to their proximity to the equator.

Peru has a sufficient renewable resource base to produce green hydrogen at low costs, supply the local market, and offer it abroad in the medium and long term.

Investments in Peru's renewable energy

Peru is the third country in South America hosting the highest number of FDI projects in renewable energy, with 48 projects between 2003 and July 2024, totaling an investment of US$8.473 billion and generating 6,125 jobs.

South Africa, Spain, and Brazil account for 68% of the total foreign direct investment in Peru's renewable energy. Indeed, 52% of the FDI in renewable energy has been located in Arequipa, Ica, Moquegua, and Piura regions.
