Demonstrating the patriotism of compatriots and showcasing the best of Peru during its Independence Day Anniversary season, the Consulate General in New York, United States, has been organizing various activities throughout the current month of July.

On July 21, the Consulate organized a Thanksgiving Mass for Peru and a tribute to the five Peruvian saints at St. Brigid Church, which was attended by the entire community.

On the following day, the Peruvian flag raising event took place at the iconic Bowling Green.

It saw the presence of the Peruvian community and New York City Mayor Eric Adams, who declared July 22 as "Peruvian Heritage Day" in the U.S. metropolis.

As part of the event, traditional Peruvian dances were performed and musical pieces, such as 'La Flor de la Canela,' were played. Besides, Peru's national anthem was sung in ancient Quechua language.
On July 23, Consul General in New York, Minister Oswaldo del Aguila, welcomed Peruvian swimmer Lorena Costa at the consular office. Costa is the first Peruvian to swim around the island of Manhattan.

The activities did not end that day.

On July 26, a flag-raising ceremony took place in White Plains, Westchester County, located north of New York City. This event featured traditional Criollo dances and songs.

Additionally, an ornamental lighting with the colors of the Peruvian flag at the Nassau County Legislative Building (Theodore Roosevelt Executive and Legislative Building) took place that evening.

This celebratory event was organized by the Peruvian-American Chamber of Commerce of Long Island (PACCLI).
