The President of the Republic Dina Boluarte has confirmed the launch of a new national system for the sale of electronic tickets to Machu Picchu Inca citadel, located in Urubamba province, Cusco region.

Mrs. Boluarte emphasized that the new virtual platform, hosted on the National Digital Government Platform, relies on "controls, guarantees, and accessibility for Machu Picchu; providing transparent, objective, and secure information."

The top official explained that this new digital platform definitively replaces the previous ticket sales system, which was prone to corruption at the expense of the Peruvian State.

"The fight against corruption is unwavering, and targets all its forms. Thus, our Government has made a fundamental change in how tickets to the Machu Picchu Historic Sanctuary —our world wonder and top cultural destination— are sold," Mrs. Boluarte stated.

"The previous ticket sales mechanism (…), which benefited a few making profit out of our heritage, has been completely removed and will not return," she underlined.

The new virtual platform represents the start of a process of change and improvement, she affirmed, adding that this approach will extend to all State-managed cultural sites, contributing to better management of our heritage and prioritizing its preservation for future generations.

Remarks were made during her Address to the Nation delivered on the occasion of Peru's 203rd Independence Anniversary at Congress headquarters in Lima.

During the first fortnight in July, Culture Minister Leslie Urteaga announced in advance that the new digital platform for ticket sales to Machu Picchu and other cultural sites was nearly complete, with delivery expected by the end of July or early August.

"We have completed the transition period since mid-May, and are now in the testing phase so that everyone who wants to visit the sanctuary will log on to the same platform," she indicated.

The platform features four modules: entrance control, agencies and reservations, in-person sales, and online sales, which will allow for enhanced controls and validations to optimize sales, reservations, and access to cultural sites.

It will also provide greater information security for transactions thanks to monitoring by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM) National Center for Digital Security, among other benefits for visitors.

The Culture minister explained that the new digital ticket sales platform will be a strong system managed entirely by the Peruvian State, equipped with anti-fraud measures, as well as interoperability with the National Registry of Identification and Civil Status (RENIEC) and National Superintendence of Migrations authorities.
