Led by flag bearers Juan Miguel Postigos and Maria Luisa Doig, Peru's delegation of 23 athletes made their way along the waters of River Seine during the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games on Friday.

Waving small red-and-white flags in their hands to the rhythm of the applause from the stands, Team Peru members, aboard a large boat, made their way along the River Seine, which served as the stage for the initial ceremony.

In the images broadcasted on TV, Kimberly Garcia, Gladys Tejeda, Cristhian Pacheco, Nicolas Pacheco, and Ines Castillo were seen, who are among the athletes representing Peru in the French capital.

Peru appeared on the stage after the delegations of Panama, Papua New Guinea, Paraguay, and the Netherlands.

The rain that covered the French capital did not prevent the Inca team from expressing their happiness during the parade.

Surfers Alonso Correa, Lucca Mesinas, and Sol Aguirre were not present in the French capital as they are staying at a floating Olympic village in Tahiti, an island in French Polynesia.

The Peruvian surfing team is based on a cruise ship located 25 minutes by boat from the beaches and waves of Teahupoo, where they will compete on Saturday, July 27.

As is known, Team Peru consists of 26 athletes each of whom will compete to win an Olympic medal -an honor that has not been registered for 32 years.

The last time a Peruvian athlete stood on the Olympics' podium was in Barcelona 1992 as shooter Juan Giha won a silver medal.

In its history, Peru has accumulated 4 medals (1 gold and three silver). These were won in shooting (1 gold and 2 silver) and volleyball (1 silver).
