Peru's Senior Official for APEC, Renato Reyes, on Monday confirmed the
to the meetings that will take place in our country next week.
In to remarks to RPP Noticias, the senior official indicated that so far 1,901 delegates, 1,200 journalists, and approximately 1,200 businesspeople have officially registered as attendees.
Likewise, the diplomat said that 600 of these delegates will come from the United States.
Regarding the information on the absence of the President of Brazil, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, at this meeting, he said that so far "it is unofficial news."
"As far as I know, we have not received any official communication that the cancellation has been made," he indicated.
The Brazilian president has been invited by Peru, as host country. His presence responds to the possibility that Brazil may establish ties with APEC economies in the future.
In this regard, he affirmed that the gathering of delegations will generate a direct positive economic impact on Peru's accommodation, food, transportation, tourism, and security sectors.
On the other hand, Reyes mentioned that the
APEC Leaders' Meeting will also be attended by around a thousand businesspeople from the Asia-Pacific region, including the vice-president of Google and the
CEO of TikTok,
who will arrive in Peru for the first time.The APEC forum is made up of 21 member economies from the Pacific Rim, seeking to foster open trade and practical economic cooperation throughout the Asia-Pacific region.
Together, they account for 62% of world's GDP, 48% of global trade in goods and services, plus 38% of the planet's population.
