Peru's FA Min highlights multidimensional global challenges

At the opening of the 47th Annual Conference on Oceans Law and Policy, Peruvian Foreign Affairs Minister Elmer Schialer emphasized the global challenges affecting the oceans, such as the triple planetary crisis, and the importance of fulfilling the international commitments made.

During his speech at the Lima-based Torre Tagle Palace on Tuesday, the Peruvian government official addressed the challenges posed by climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution.

Likewise, the diplomat mentioned the gaps in science, technology, and financing, as well as the fight against illegal fishing and organized crime in the seas.

In this regard, the Cabinet member emphasized that global solutions must be found through multilateral processes that guarantee the validity of the principles of peace, equity, and development that support the international order of oceans.

Regarding the event inaugurated on this occasion, Minister Schialer indicated that this conference represents a valuable opportunity to delve deeper into the scope of these challenges, envision new strategies to mitigate their impact, foster the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for the 2023 Agenda, and contribute to the preparation process for the UN Ocean Conference that will be held in Nice, France, in 2025.

Panel 3: Sustainable Fisheries and Marine Environmental Protection.
Panel 4: Maritime Safety, Security, Decarbonization of Shipping, and Climate Change.
Panel 5: Future Oceans - Emerging Technologies & Digital Connectivity.
Panel 6: Future Ocean - Ocean Governance, Human Rights, and Non-State Actors.
Panel 7: Future Ocean - National Laws and Policies.
