Foreign Affairs Minister Javier Gonzalez-Olaechea on Friday affirmed that the Google-certified scholarship program will contribute to the transition towards a formal economy —one of the priorities that Peru has within the framework of the APEC 2024 forum's presidency.

"The 5,000 Google scholarships will enable their beneficiaries to acquire skills in digital economy, which are absolutely essential in the nascent disruptive era," he indicated.

Minister Gonzalez-Olaechea said this initiative, which emerges within the framework of APEC for the People, means a concrete example of how essential cooperation among the (Peruvian) State, the private sector, and civil society is, in pursuit of a single objective: the common good.

Thus, the government official indicated that everyone's participation in APEC activities is absolutely essential in order to harness each and every opportunity offered by Peru, as well as those presented by this initiative and others to be announced in the coming months leading up to the summit.

This work he said reflects the will expressed in San Francisco, United States, by President Dina Boluarte when she received the APEC 2024 presidency in November 2023, that everything undertaken this year will benefit the 21 APEC economies.

"The motto of the APEC Peru 2024 presidency: 'empower, include, and grow' emphasizes Peru's commitment and the need to provide tools to our citizens, with the aim of empowering them in a special manner so that they can move towards social inclusion and a full economy, which means the well-being that all Peruvians need," he stated.
