The Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM) on Friday stated that the Attorney General's Office cannot determine which parties are allowed to participate in elections, referring to the request by its head, Delia Espinoza, to declare Fuerza Popular (Popular Force party) illegal.

In a communiqué, the PCM stated that it is the Peruvians who, through a free vote at the polls, must choose their next authorities.

The PCM specified that the branches of the State and constitutionally established autonomous bodies have the duty to consolidate our democracy, ensure the smooth conduct of the upcoming electoral process, and foster confidence both within and outside the country.

Similarly, the entity led by Prime Minister Eduardo Arana recalled that the Head of State had called for General Elections to be held on April 12, 2026.

It emphasized that they must take place in an atmosphere of peace, brotherhood, and patriotism, "in which all Peruvians can choose our next authorities through a free and sovereign vote."

"The Attorney General's Office cannot seek to become an institution above the Constitution and the law, attempting, in an undemocratic manner, to determine which parties should participate in the upcoming elections," the statement read.

It also emphasizes that in the past six years, the country has had six Presidents of the Republic, "a situation that has led us to an economic, political, and social crisis which we are leaving behind."

Therefore, the text highlights the need to continue pursuing the country’s development, consolidating the economy, and strengthening national confidence to attract greater and better investments, always within the democratic framework.

"Actions outside our legal framework, taken by the Public Ministry, should not prevent Peruvians from freely exercising their right to choose their next authorities. It is the citizens who, through a free vote at the polls, will decide our next representatives," the statement concluded.
