OECD accession process is the right path to address Peru's challenges

At the official launch of the OECD Economic Survey: Peru 2025 on Monday, its Secretary-General Mathias Cormann presided as Foreign Affairs Minister Elmer Schialer stated that joining the OECD is the right path to optimize public policy and foster citizens' well-being.

During his speech, the government official emphasized that the report serves as a key tool to strengthen cooperation between Peru and the OECD and jointly address the challenges and obstacles facing the South American country.

Likewise, the Peruvian diplomat emphasized the need to create more opportunities in education and youth employment, strengthen the inclusion of small and medium-sized enterprises, foster sustainable entrepreneurship, and facilitate their access to financing.

In turn, OECD Secretary-General Mathias Cormann highlighted Peru's strong macroeconomic foundations and the importance of maintaining sound public finances to safeguard them.

Furthermore, he underlined the need to maintain fiscal discipline, improve public investment efficiency, strengthen infrastructure investments, facilitate access to financing for small- and medium-sized enterprises, and promote a sustainable energy transition.

Speaking at the event, Economy and Finance Minister Raul Perez Reyes highlighted that Peru's accession to the OECD represents a valuable opportunity to advance still-pending structural reforms.

Perez Reyes also stressed that the country has already been adopting measures aligned with OECD standards, which will help strengthen institutional capacity and economic growth.

Within this framework, he projected a significant Gross Domestic Product (GDP) increase as a result of the trade policies being fostered.

The OECD Economic Survey: Peru 2025 provides a strategic analysis of the national economic context.

It highlights the country's macroeconomic stability, identifies key challenges, and offers recommendations to advance sustainable and inclusive reforms that contribute to the well-being of the entire population.
