The Peruvian Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri) confirmed that a Chinese delegation, led by Vice Minister of the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China (GACC) Zhao Zenglian, will visit Peru from September 21 to 24 to advance agreements and consolidate the access of new Peruvian products to the Chinese market.

"This visit is the outcome of the good relations we maintain with the Chinese Government, which were strengthened by the visit of President Dina Boluarte," said Midagri's head Angel Manero.

"The arrival of this delegation aims to secure the access of frozen fruits, pomegranates, and pecans from Peru, which could achieve exports exceeding US$100 million annually," he added.

The Cabinet member said that efforts will be undertaken for the recognition of Peru as a country free of foot-and-mouth disease, which will pave the way for exporting beef and pork to the Chinese market.

Thus, the People's Republic of China is fulfilling its commitments to Peru, aiming to strengthen working relations on cooperation for the access of Peruvian food products to the Asian Giant.

During the first days of the upcoming visit, the Chinese delegation will verify the production and processing procedures conducted by Peruvian companies dedicated to the export of fruits and dry grains.

Agro-export potential

A few weeks ago, a Peruvian delegation visited China, where its members fulfilled a working agenda that included the signing of phytosanitary protocols for the access of new agricultural products to this important market, hosting 1.4 billion food consumers.

"The consumption of all meats in China totals 70 million tons per year. It is rational to think that, in the medium term, we could export one million tons, which would mean more than US$5 billion (in annual sales). That is, an increase in our agro-exports by 50%," he projected.
