Peru's new FA Min highlights importance of APEC forum

14:39 | Lima, Sep. 4.

New Foreign Affairs Minister Elmer Schialer on Wednesday referred to the importance of hosting the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum for Peru's foreign policy, stating that it is a "central issue."

The Cabinet member added that Peru has attached great importance to this mechanism, having already hosted it in 2008 and 2016.

"There is no pothole, no flat tire in the organization and execution of APEC. (…) Peru decided to make APEC more accessible to average citizens. Rest assured, everything remains the same or is (even) better," he emphasized.

Minister Schialer mentioned that the decentralization of APEC was one of the conditions set by President Dina Boluarte from the beginning of the application process, ensuring that the forum would be for all of Peru.

Chancay Megaport and Xi Jinping's visit

Furthermore, Minister Schialer expressed satisfaction regarding the upcoming State Visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to Peru.

Similarly, the Cabinet member highlighted its importance for the
inauguration of the Chancay Megaport.

"We look forward with great joy and satisfaction to the State Visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping; it will not only be a State Visit, but he will also have the ability and determination to inaugurate the great Port of Chancay," Schialer concluded.
