Peru's Foreign Affairs Minister Javier Gonzalez-Olaechea on Friday highlighted the importance of proposing decisive actions to address the challenges generated by the nascent disruptive era.

Within this framework, the Cabinet member pointed out that people are witnessing the transition linked to the disruptive era, marked by the confluence of AI, new forms of communication, and bioengineering.

In that sense, Gonzalez-Olaechea expressed that countries face two types of challenges: moral challenges due to the creation of social pockets, such as the so-called neo-illiterates and neo-excluded, due to the process of job automation and the existential challenges faced with the possible creation of artificial life in the coming years.

In his speech, the Foreign Affairs sector's head said the above-mentioned issues bring to light the risks that the social and political governance of our societies will face.

"I am a techno-optimist, but I believe that we must propose decisive solutions, not only in the regulatory framework but essentially in how to sustain the social pockets that are being formed by millions in every part of the world," he pointed out.

This event also saw the participation of high-ranking authorities from the European Union; the African Union Commission; the International Labour Organization (ILO); the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO); the Netherlands; Austria; the United States; Chile; Italy; and Thailand; among others.
