Located in the province of Nazca, in Ica region, the district of Marcona is an ideal destination for tourists keen to explore new places and enjoy beautiful beaches, as well as a delicious gastronomy based on fish and shellfish —two reasons to visit this place.

Besides, if you are looking for an additional reason, Marcona celebrates its anniversary of political creation as district on the first week of May, and 2024 marks 69 years since then.

The district of Marcona was created on May 2, 1955, by Law No. 12314, issued by Congress during the Government of President Manuel Prado Ugarteche.

The celebration, which began on April 26, seeks to pay tribute to the history and culture of this district, which is recognized for its important mining activity and the natural beauty of its beaches.

Marcona is characterized by its rich culinary tradition, in which fish and shellfish are the main characters.

Visitors may try typical dishes such as picante de cochayuyo, sea urchin ceviche, grilled octopus, causa de pulpo al olivo, tallarin salvaje de erizo, and lapa arrebozada, among others.

The mining district of Marcona is also known for the abundance of red sea urchins, which have been used by renowned cook Karen Baca to innovate a typical dessert from Ica region to turn into chocoteja de erizo.

The activities commemorating the 69th anniversary of Marcona include a school-civic parade and the performance of typical dances from the region.

Likewise, visitors can enjoy various beaches such as Playa Hermosa, La Herradura, Acapulco, Los Pingüinos, Los Leones, El Elefante, and La Lobera, among others.

Furthermore, this district is known as the cradle of the Humboldt penguin and sea lions, which can be observed from the Punta San Juan viewpoint.
