The number of citizens infected with coronavirus (COVID-19) rose to 2281 in Peru and the death toll reached 83 as at Sunday at 00:00 (local time), the Ministry of Health (Minsa) has confirmed.
Regarding the confirmed cases, 1327 (58.2%) are men, and 954 (41.8%) are women.
To date, confirmed cases have been reported in the capital city of Lima (1639), followed by the regions: Loreto (143), Lambayeque (100), Callao (89), Cusco (52), Arequipa (51), La Libertad (50), Piura (29), Tumbes (26), Junin (25), Ancash (23), Ica (14), Tacna (9), San Martin (8), Cajamarca (6), Huanuco (6), Ayacucho (3), Pasco (3), Madre de Dios (2), Apurimac (1), Huancavelica (1), and Moquegua (1).
However, 17129 samples tested negative for COVID-19.
It must be noted 989 people have been discharged and declared healthy.
Minsa is the official source of authorized information on coronavirus in the South American country. Thus, the content circulating in social media and other unofficial networks should not be deemed as true.
The ministry recommends washing hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds; covering nose and mouth with the forearm or a tissue when coughing or sneezing; avoiding eye, nose, and mouth touching with unwashed hands; and avoiding close contact with people who have respiratory illnesses.
Prevention
Minsa recommends that people should take the following preventive measures:
• Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
• Cover your nose and mouth with your forearm or a tissue when you cough or sneeze.
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.
• Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
