The Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) on Thursday strengthened relations through a joint declaration inked in Geneva.

The document was signed by Peruvian Minister Javier Gonzalez-Olaechea and ITU Secretary-General Doreen Bogdan-Martin within the framework of a meeting held today.

This instrument creates synergies between the Foreign Affairs Ministry and this international entity in the digital field and its positive impact on foreign policy.

Similarly, it will facilitate cooperation in digital transformation, mainly in the field of services offered to citizens.

During the meeting, Minister Gonzalez-Olaechea requested the support from the international organization on three major reforms: normative rationalization, which will streamline steps in public administration; digital process reform, which will also strengthen the fight against corruption; and data unification in judicial and police spheres.

The Cabinet member underscored that this would allow for reducing digital gaps and speeding up procedures.

In turn, the ITU Secretary-General indicated that Peru could participate in the GovStack initiative through which the organization seeks to help governments digitalize public services.
