United Kingdom Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson on Saturday paid an official visit to Peru and met with President Martin Vizcarra.
The gathering took place in the eastern city of Iquitos.
In the rainforest area, both personalities attended the opening ceremony of a solar energy project — implemented in
cooperation with the UK Government— to benefit pupils attending a local school.
They were joined by Peruvian Foreign Affairs Minister Nestor Popolizio and UK Ambassador Kate Harrisson on the occasion.
It must be noted
Johnson is the first British Foreign Secretary, who has visited the Inca country in over 50 years.
According to the local Foreign Affairs Ministry, this visit was a result of renewed efforts undertaken by Peru and the United Kingdom to strengthen bilateral relations established in 1823.
Peru-UK ties
In the 1830s, half of Inca imports came from the UK. Likewise, Peru started to host renowned British companies in the following decades.
