The legal team of Peruvian striker Paolo Guerrero on Friday submitted an appeal to the Swiss Federal Court to suspend
the 14-month doping ban imposed on him by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), Peruvian Soccer Federation (FPF) informed on Friday.
"As part of the appeal process —submitted to the
Swiss Federal Court today— (FPF) President Edwin Oviedo has issued a joint statement highlighting the values, career, and importance of
Paolo Guerrero as a player of our Peruvian national soccer team," the release reads.
According to the document, Oviedo remains in Switzerland contributing to —institutionally speaking— and respecting the corresponding procedures and judicial instances so that
Paolo Guerrero can play at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
In this sense, FPF states it will work the same way as it did —to overcome the most difficult challenges— since Oviedo's administration took office in 2015.
"We expect to hear the official news at the end of next week. Plus, we call on Peruvians to have faith and await the corresponding resolution with hope," FPF added.
As is known, Peruvian Soccer Federation (FPF) President Edwin Oviedo joined the national soccer team captain at a meeting with
FIFA President Gianni Infantino early this week.
At the gathering, the striker unsuccessfully sought amnesty from FIFA's top official.
In a previous meeting with Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra, the Flamengo forward said he would appeal to the Swiss Federal Court to have the sanction overturned and thus join the Peruvian squad at the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
