Peru will be the guest of honor at next year's Biofach —the world's most important trade fair for organic products— taking place on February 13-16, 2019 in Nuremberg (Germany), the Exports and Tourism Promotion Board (PromPeru) informed Thursday.

"Having appointed Peru as Biofach's guest of honor is not only a great recognition but also a great opportunity to showcase the country —at international level— as an excellent supplier of organic and functional products," PromPeru Exports Director Luis Torres expressed.

Likewise, the event will enable the South American nation to promote the Superfoods Peru brand, a strategy that goes hand-in-hand with the global healthy-lifestyle trend.

"This will certainly be a new challenge to the sector, in which business associations and other Peruvian public institutions will join efforts to boost our country's image," he added.

The Inca delegation —that joined Biofach 2018— was composed of 117 exporters, who made more than 1,200 new business contacts.

Superfoods

The most demanded superfoods at the event included quinoa, maca, chestnuts, cacao derivatives, chia, cañihua, amaranth, lucuma, ginger, avocados, banana, passion fruit, granulated cane sugar, carob, and camu camu, among others.

Some of the products —presented for the first time at this event— were Haden mango, huanarpo macho, chocolate coating with camu camu, and ready-to-eat quinoa meals.

This year, Biofach brought together 3,218 exhibitors from 93 nations and was attended by 50,000 professionals from 134 countries.

This participation was organized by Peru's Foreign Trade and Tourism Ministry (Mincetur) along with the Exports and Tourism Promotion Board (PromPeru).
