Peru President: Pope's visit to make us reflect on importance of dialogue

13:26 | Lima, Jan. 18.

Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski urged all sectors in the country to contribute to making Pope Francis' visit an opportunity for reaffirming peace and dialogue as tools to improve people's lives.

Speaking at the opening of the International Media Center, Mr. Kuczynski remarked the papal visit will make Peruvians reflect on what they need to do to live in peace, be more prone to dialogue and more reflective.

"I think the Pope's visit —which holds the theme 'United by Hope'— will give us the chance to reflect on how a country like ours can live in peace, be more prone to dialogue and more reflective […]," he told reporters.

With that in mind, he said today is one of the most important days for Peru since the last papal visit in the 1980s.

For that reason, he stressed the fact that the newly-opened International Media Center will meet the needs of nearly 2,500 accredited journalists as they cover papal activities in Peru.

Mr. Kuczynski went on to thank everyone involved in the organization of such a milestone visit.

"Many thanks to you all and let's make the Pope's visit a peace-oriented event," he underlined.

The Supreme Pontiff will land in Lima today for a 4-day visit to the Inca country. His trip will also include stops in cities: Puerto Maldonado and Trujillo.
