Peru President: Let's stand together in the face of adversity

18:56 | Lima, Mar. 20.

Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski on Tuesday attended the presentation of the First Multi-Purpose Brigade of the Army "Marshal Eloy Gaspar Ureta Montehermoso," and stressed its role in emergencies affecting the population.

The Head of State highlighted the brigade's patriotism, understood as the desire to serve the country as "a single force" — the slogan of a Government's response campaign following "Coastal El Niño" phenomenon a year ago.

"We have to fight in a world of adversity, of great happiness, but also of great adversity," Mr. Kuczynski expressed.

"Many of these hardships are due to natural events, and we have many of them," he added.

Joined by Prime Minister Mercedes Araoz and Defense Minister Jorge Kisic, the statesman praised the Army for establishing this new brigade, which is to be supported by the Navy, Air Force and National Police.

"We are all going to work: The Army will take the lead in helping the population. That must be our slogan: 'a single force.' Congratulations," he concluded.

The brigade's aim is to train soldiers in military actions against natural disasters and in social support initiatives.
