Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra on Wednesday expressed disagreement with a legislative proposal that prohibits State advertising in private media since this tool is required to inform people about the Government's actions.
"We think this is not appropriate. We disagree with the measure, and we acknowledge it falls within the competence of Congress, but we respectfully disagree. However, if you approve it, we'll respect your point of view," he affirmed.
At a press conference after a
budget transfer ceremony, Vizcarra claimed the Government needs mass media to address the population.
The Peruvian leader explained that —even though the Government holds press conferences to keep the community informed of its activities— this mechanism is aimed at a limited segment of the population.
"Advertising is required to make the population aware of the investments being made
throughout the regions and to keep track of the spending. Sharing that information with citizens is opportune," he pointed out.
In this sense, the statesman reiterated his disagreement with the bill that would prohibit private media from receiving State advertising.
Presented by Congressman Mauricio Mulder, the proposed law is being evaluated by the
Peruvian Congress.
