President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski on Saturday morning attended the mass Pope Francis officiated at Trujillo's Huanchaco Beach.

The Head of State arrived in the seashore area —joined by wife Mrs. Nancy Lange— to listen to the Holy Father's message.

During the religious service, Pope Francis stressed the spirit of solidarity and brotherhood among Peruvian citizens in response to the devastating Coastal El Niño disasters in 2017.

The Holy Father also drew an analogy between the apostles —who faced storms at sea— and the people of northern Peru, who "had to face the harsh blow of Coastal El Niño, whose painful aftermath is still among so many families […]."

Following the mass, the Peruvian leader and his wife greeted the Supreme Pontiff and thanked him for visiting said city.

Afterwards, Pope Francis gave them a blessed rosary.

The event was part of Pope Francis' pastoral activities for the third day of his visit to Peru.
