Pope Francis and President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski on Friday afternoon held a private meeting at the Government Palace in Lima.

The gathering took place following the welcoming ceremony Peru's top official had led in honor of the highest authority of the Catholic Church, who currently visits the Inca country.

The meeting lasted 15 minutes, at the end of which President Kuczynski gave Pope Francis a Peruvian-themed religious nativity scene from Andean Ayacucho region, and a crucifix, gifts the Holy Father received gladly.

Also, both leaders toured some of the Government Palace's rooms, thus allowing staff to see and greet His Holiness.

Subsequently, the Holy Father boarded the Popemobile at the Hall of Honor and left the compound.
