Peru's Housing, Construction, and Sanitation Minister Javier Pique arrived in South-Andean Ayacucho region on Friday to deliver the first batch of humanitarian aid to citizens residing in frost-affected areas.
It consisted of 14,000 blankets, 200 shovels, 100 picks, and 50 wheelbarrows.
The Peruvian State —through Ayacucho Regional Government— will distribute a total of 37.6 tons of aid to residents affected by low temperatures —especially children and the elderly.
"Nearly 3,000 people will benefit from this initiative, which is part of a multisectoral plan implemented in 11 regions declared under state of emergency due to the imminent danger in case of frosts and snowfalls," Pique noted.
Furthermore, the cabinet member announced the delivery process will be completed in the coming days.
"I have been appointed to be responsible for Ayacucho, so I will continue visiting this region in the next days to oversee the progress made on aid delivery," he added.
