Peru's Foreign Affairs Minister Cayetana Aljovin hopes the democratic order prevailing in the country will remain intact at the Summit of the Americas —slated to take place April 13-14 in Lima.
"I hope there won't be any more coups, not only in Peru but across the region," she told RPP radio and TV news station.
The high-ranking official said no concerns have been expressed —by any country— about the political situation facing Peru —as a result of the
impeachment motion against President
Pedro Pablo Kuczynski— although questions have been raised on the situation.
"We explain this
impeachment is the same process lawmakers brought in December, without additional facts and that we are confident it will be overcome,
as in the past," she said.
Concrete measures against corruption
On the other hand, Minister Aljovin expects concrete measures will be taken to tackle corruption at the
Summit of the Americas, unlike other summits. She said measures are to be auditable by the population.
