Peru expressed its deepest condolences to the Government and people of Canada after a van struck pedestrians in the city of Toronto, leaving 10 dead and 15 injured.

On Monday, a van struck pedestrians in downtown Toronto, Canadian police informed.

According to local media, the crash took place at the corner of Yonge Street and Finch Avenue in the north end of the city.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau expressed consternation over the event.

The incident occurred as Foreign Affairs Ministers from the G7 countries (Canada, Germany, France, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States) gathered in Toronto to discuss issues in the fight against terrorism and jihadist extremism.

"The Peruvian people express their solidarity with the Canadian people —especially with the victims' families— at these difficult times, and hope for a speedy recovery of those injured in this unfortunate event," the Foreign Affairs Ministry said in a statement.
