Peru's total bank loans amounted to S/244.613 billion (about US$75.196 billion) in January 2018, up by 5.85% over the same month last year, under a constant exchange rate, Peruvian Bank Association (Asbanc) reported.

"This result goes hand in hand with the recovery experienced in sectors linked to domestic demand, such as construction and public investment," Asbanc stressed.

The association noted credits will further increase, as long as there is a private investment rebound in the coming months, as well as an expected public investment growth.

Within this framework, Asbanc pointed out bank loans will remain on the recovery trend witnessed over recent years.

Types of credits

Peruvian Sol-denominated credits totaled S/164.657 billion (US$50.616 billion) in January 2018, a 3.41% increase compared to the same term in 2017.

On the other hand, U.S. Dollar credits reached US$24.862 billion, an 11.26% rise from the same month last year.
