1.3 million micro- and small-enterprises (MSEs) will be led by women in Peru by end-2018, an important increase over recent years, Production Minister Lieneke Schol said Wednesday.
Based on information available in 2017, she noted there is a great diversity in terms of geographical distribution of
women leading MSEs.
"79.5% of these micro- and small-enterprises are located in the country's interior," the minister pointed out. In this sense, regions such as Puno, Piura, La Libertad, Cusco, and Junin host the largest number of female entrepreneurs.
"The remaining 20.5% are situated in Lima," she added.
By sectors
According to INEI's 2017 National Household Survey (ENAHO), sectors such as commerce (39.6%),
farming (27.1%), services (25.8%), and
manufacture (7.5%) registered the largest number of female leaders.
By ages
The average age of women entrepreneurs is 46 —two years younger than men in this segment (48 years old).
