The National Port Authority (APN) of Peru and the OAS Inter-American Committee on Ports (CIP) are holding the "II Hemispheric Seminar on Corporate Social Responsibility and Gender Equality: Creating a Competitive and Inclusive Port Sector" in the Peruvian capital city, Lima.

Scheduled for May 23-24, the event brings together port authorities from the OAS Member States, CIP associate members, government officials, executives, experts, as well as special guests from the public and private sectors, involved in social responsibility and gender equality in the port sector.

The opening was presided over by Deputy Transport Minister Carlos Estremadoyro, who was joined by CIP Secretary Jorge Duran, CIP Chair and Coordinator General of Ports and Merchant Marine at Secretariat of Communications and Transport in Mexico Guillermo Ruiz de Teresa, and National Port Authority (APN) Chair Edgar Patiño.

Estremadoyro stressed the importance of the event, which is part of the sector's efforts to embrace a socially responsible approach in port operations and promotes the full participation of women in civil, political, economic, social, and cultural fields, as a major element for the comprehensive development of societies.

The seminar will provide an international platform for public and private dialogue and will allow decision-makers from governments, international organizations, the private sector, and civil society to share strategic actions on the modernization of the socially responsible port-logistics supply chain.

Likewise, the event will address actions on port legislation for social responsibility, environmentally responsible port operations, inclusive capacity building, and gender equality strategies for competitive port operations.

The seminar will include a Port Dialogue Roundtable in which representatives of National Port Authorities will offer a series of recommendations to face port development challenges through socially responsible and inclusive strategies.
