The International Labor Organization (ILO) welcomed the Peruvian Government's decision to adopt a regulation that prohibits remunerative discrimination between men and women, Deputy Labor Minister Manuel Vasquez informed.

According to the Peruvian official, ILO also recognized the Inca country for promoting the "Work without Harassment" campaign.

Moreover, he said ILO International Labour Standards Department Director Corinne Vargha saluted Labor and Employment Promotion Minister Javier Barreda's administration for fostering pay equity in the country, as well as for installing a module to help victims of sexual harassment in the workplace.

"Vargha has been pleasantly surprised by the 'Work without Harassment' module —installed at the ministry's headquarters— and pointed out ILO will promote this tool in its upcoming events in Lima and New York," Vasquez underscored.

Additionally, he stated the international organization's representative is looking forward to knowing about Peru's progress made in the social and labor dialogue between workers, employers and the Executive Branch.

It must be noted Vasquez —on behalf of the Peruvian Government— currently participates in the 332nd Session of the ILO Governing Body, which takes place in Geneva thru March 22.

During his speech, the deputy minister expressed the Andean country's commitment to overcome its challenges in terms of decent work and to contribute with its experience to the protection of this essential right.

As is known, Peru holds the vice-presidency of the ILO Governing Body for the 2017-18 period.
