Peru, China to further strengthen strategic ties

10:16 | Santiago (Chile), Jan. 23.

Peru and China will continue to strengthen their strategic relationship and friendship bonds, Andean country's Foreign Affairs Minister Cayetana Aljovin affirmed.

Aljovin's remarks were made at a bilateral meeting with Chinese counterpart Wang Yi, within the framework of the Forum of China and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) held in Chile.

"China and Peru maintain a very close friendship and have a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership that we will continue to deepen," the government official assured.

China and CELAC foreign affairs ministers on Monday agreed to strengthen multilateralism and open market policies during the ministerial meeting in Santiago.

The gathering resulted in a 2019-2021 roadmap that will outline cooperation and investment actions between both blocs, among other things.

Aljovin held private audiences with Chile's Foreign Affairs Minister Heraldo Muñoz, Mexican counterpart Luis Videgaray, and ministers from other countries.
