Peru remains a leader in terms of economic growth in Latin America, with an acceleration that is already being witnessed, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) affirmed Thursday.
"Peru remains a leader in terms of regional growth, with an economy that has adjusted well to the terms-of-trade shock," said IMF Western Hemisphere Director
Alejandro Werner.
During the forum
Infrastructure Needs in a New Climate Reality, Werner pointed out the Inca country has maintained a distance upwards from the average Latin American growth, even in a context characterized by a lower regional expansion.
"In the first half of 2017, there was a slowdown in growth, associated with
[Coastal] El Niño Phenomenon and the impacts of the Odebrecht scandal, but we are seeing that the economy is now accelerating significantly," the officer expressed.
"It [Peru] also continues to present one of the lowest inflation rates in Latin America," he added.
