As part of strong and ongoing bilateral security cooperation, the United States Embassy in Lima has provided strategic support this year to enhance the Peruvian National Police (PNP) operational capacity in preparation for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum, reaffirming the North American country's firm commitment to citizen security in Peru.

In preparation for the arrival of the 21 APEC economies, which will take place in Lima this November, the U.S. Embassy through its Regional Security Office of the Diplomatic Security Service (DSS) has trained nearly 200 PNP agents in critical areas for the fulfillment of their security duties.

This training process has covered advanced tactics, first aid, and best practices to ensure safety during high-profile events.

To complement this support, U.S. Ambassador to Peru, Stephanie Syptak-Ramnath, along with International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) Bureau Director Glenn Tosten, delivered two pick-up trucks donated by INL to the PNP Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit (UDEX), which strengthens its response capacity to emergencies related to explosive devices.

Additionally, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) delivered security and hazardous materials detection equipment to the PNP General Staff Chief, Lieutenant General Oscar Arriola, thus expanding the institution's capabilities.

The INL will also offer a security training course to 44 police officers this month, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening police capabilities in Peru.

This ceremony took place in the Peruvian capital, Lima, on September 30.
