Peruvian imports totaled US$40.576 billion between January and November 2017, up by 20% over the same period the previous year, Lima Chamber of Commerce's (CCL) Foreign Trade Research and Development Institute (Idexcam) reported Wednesday.
According to Idexcam Executive-Director Carlos Posada, this growth was mainly underpinned by higher capital good purchases, which increased 44% in the analyzed period, thus reaching US$11.249 billion.
Products
Among the major imported goods, gas turbines stood out.
These products are used in thermoelectric projects based in diverse Peruvian regions.
"This result shows that the
private sector keeps investing in various projects, which —in the future— will be very beneficial to all Peruvians, especially [to those living] in the most remote areas [...]," Posada noted.
